The Watch
The Seamasters was launched in 1948 and have achieved worldwide fame for their rugged reliability. The Seamaster family had its origins in the watches supplied to the British Airforce during the second world war. In 1954, 50 cases equipped with O-ring gaskets were submitted to a succession of extremely severe tests, both in the factory and at the Swiss Laboratory for Watchmaking Reswarch. Each case perfectly resisted pressures of 6 kg/cm2 (corresponding to a depth of 60 metres) and temperatures from -40 C to +50 C, all without showing any trace of water infiltration or humidity.

The Condition
This is one of a kind!
Look at the condition of this pristine Omega Automatic Seamaster. We have not seen many vintage watches in this condition. The case is a "beefy lugs"-case and is amazing with unpolished chamfers. The case have some minor scratches from use, but just small as you can see.
The crown is original and in very good condition.
The dial is the most spectacular detail of this watch - a rare 100% original dial without damage and beautiful aged "pumpkin"-lume.
We usually avoid watches with engravings, but there is exceptions and this really is one of them.
Short story: This watch was given to the captain of the ship M/S Klipparen (Klippan). M/S Klipparen was built in 1935 by AB Götaverken in Gothenburg. The 6:th of May 1935 was it given the name "Klipparen" before it was delivered to Rederi Ab Transatlantic. The 5:th of october in 1960 Transatlantic sold the ship to "Arendt De Jounge" and was short after that renamed to "Klippan".
In 1961 the main job for the ship was to transport Peugeot cars between Rouen and Buenos Aires. When the boat and the crew the 3:rd of May in 1961 was heading to Buenos Aires they needed to make way for a small fishing boat that they saw to late. Somehow, the lost control of the direction and drove against the notorious "Digue du Ratier" where it ran aground. Since the hull start to crack and lound sounds indicated that the ship was a danger place to be at all the crew needed to evacuate. Everyone except the captain.
I cant proof if the captain was given this watch for his leadership or if it have something to do with this accident but what I do know is that the company give him this watch in 1962 as seen in the engraving.
This is a true stunner and something for the real connoisseur.
