The Watch
This is something for the real watch connoisseur. "Rare" is an understatement!
Universal Genéve was founded in 1894 by Numa-Emile Descombes and Ulysse Perret, It was the company to release the first wrist-worn chronograph in 1917, at a time when wristwatches were considered a novelty amongst gentlemen.
Gerald Genta, ever hear of him? He’s the Swiss designer that created both Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak and Patek Philippe’s Nautilus. Before these creations he, at the fresh age of 23, started his first big hit for a little company - Universal Geneve. He began designing the watch that would, one day, be the most iconic watch the brand would ever produce, the Polerouter.
Our particular Universal Genéve "Chronometre” 28 variation is both rarer and a little sleeker than the Polerouter. Instead of being defined by the famous Polerouter bullseye dial, this example features a beautiful champagne crosshair. But, of course, it retains its famous proportions and twisted lugs. Powered by the Universal Geneve caliber 215 (their first microtor, 28-jewel movement,).
It is, without question, an exemplary vintage wristwatch. We couldn’t be more proud to be offering it here on our site!!
