The Watch
The Certina DS-2 is part of the famous DS (“Double Security”) line introduced by Certina in 1959. The DS concept was developed to create watches that were significantly more durable, shock-resistant, and water-resistant than typical watches of the time.
Certina's "Double Security"-system included: a reinforced case construction, a thick acrylic crystal, special gaskets and seals for improved water resistance, a floating movement suspension system to absorb shocks. This innovation quickly gave Certina a reputation for producing extremely robust tool watches.
The DS-2 was introduced in the late 1960s as an evolution of the original DS models. Key improvements included: more modern and sporty designs, continued focus on shock protection and reliability, Use of improved automatic movements like the 25-6xx caliber family. DS watches were used in mountaineering expeditions, including Himalayan climbs, they were tested in laboratory shock tests and real-world harsh conditions. Certina even demonstrated the durability by subjecting watches to drops and impacts
