The Watch

The history of the Eterna KonTiki is based on the famous 1947 journey of Norway's Thor Heyerdahl. "Kon-Tiki": it was the name of the balsawood raft on which Heyerdahl and five other Scandinavians sailed from Peru to the Polynesian islands. The Norwegian explorer wanted to prove his long-standing thesis: Polynesia was not settled from the west, but from the east, before the time of Christopher Columbus. The KonTiki expedition took place in the post-war period and had great symbolic significance: It reminded the world of our desire to explore - which seemed to be lost in the decades of war. Thor Heyerdahl once said, "Borders? I have never seen one. But I have heard they exist in the minds of some people."

The Condition

This vintage Eterna features a well-defined silver sunburst dial with black and silver batons and matching hands.

The dial is in good condition despite it age with only minor sign of aeging.

The dial is signed with “Eterna-matic, Kontiki 10, T Swiss T”. The final piece, the T Swiss T, indicates that the watch is Swiss made and uses tritium as the lume on the hands and the batons.

The watch case has been crafted out of 316L grade stainless steel, an expensive stainless alloy that provides increased resistance to corrosive substances, such as seawater, and is commonly used in marine applications.

The case is in very good condition. The lines are sharp. The caseback got some signs of wear. The watch still has its original crown with the iconic “Five balls” Eterna logo clearly visible.

Since we want all our watches to be as authentic as possible, we have not polished the case/bracelet to get ride of the scratches.
