THE WATCH

The story of MIMO is closely connected to the history of Girard-Perregaux. Although they were separate brands, they were owned and operated together for a period.

In the late 1920s, Girard-Perregaux faced financial difficulties. In 1929, the company was purchased by the German watchmaker Otto Graef. Graef already owned the watch brand MIMO. MIMO and Girard-Perregaux were run side-by-side

During the 1930s, MIMO watches became quite popular, particularly in Europe. Production took place in the Swiss watchmaking city of La Chaux-de-Fonds. Many vintage watches from this era contain both names, reflecting the shared production. After the death of Otto Graef in 1948, the brand gradually disappeared.

Vintage watches marked “MIMO”, “MIMO-Girard-Perregaux”, or early GP pieces from the MIMO era usually date from the 1930s–1950s, and they are interesting to collectors because they represent this unique phase in the company’s history.
