The Watch

The Seamasters was launched in 1948 and have achieved worldwide fame for their rugged reliability. The Seamaster family had its origins in the watches supplied to the British Airforce during the second world war. In 1954, 50 cases equipped with O-ring gaskets were submitted to a succession of extremely severe tests, both in the factory and at the Swiss Laboratory for Watchmaking Reswarch. Each case perfectly resisted pressures of 6 kg/cm2 (corresponding to a depth of 60 metres) and temperatures from -40 C to +50 C, all without showing any trace of water infiltration or humidity.

The Condition

A classic Seamaster model, the Ref. 166.002 was first released in 1962 and the present example dates to 1965.

The watch has a silvered dial with applied indexes which, together with the hands, are centrally set with black inserts to increase legibility. The dial is as you can see well preserved with just small signs of ageing.

Cased in stainless steel, the watch has faceted lugs and a screw-down back centred with the Omega Seahorse emblem. The case got some signs of use but no deep scratches or dings.

This is an automatically wound model which is powered by Omega’s excellent calibre 562. The movement is professional serviced and ready to be used for many years.
