The Watch
1970 Omega Constellation Chronometer – Ref. 168.017 – An Extraordinary Time Capsule – Full Set, Sold in 1973
Every now and then, a watch comes along that reminds us exactly why we love vintage watches. This is one of those occasions.
We are incredibly excited to present something truly special: an unworn Omega Constellation Chronometer, reference 168.017, manufactured 1970 and originally sold on March 20th, 1973.
According to its history, this Constellation was purchased in 1973 and subsequently put away in its original box, where it remained for more than five decades. Never worn, never subjected to the wear and tear of everyday life, and preserved in a condition that is becoming increasingly difficult to find.
The watch features the iconic C-shaped case, a design closely associated with the legendary watch designer Gérald Genta and one of the defining silhouettes of Omega’s Constellation collection during the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Turn the watch over and you will find the famous Constellation observatory medallion, beautifully preserved on the stainless steel caseback.
The overall impression is quite extraordinary. This is not a watch that has been polished and restored to look new. It is a watch that has seemingly escaped the passage of time.
Most importantly, this number corresponds exactly with the original international guarantee certificate accompanying the watch.
The watch comes with its original Omega international guarantee certificate, dated March 20th, 1973, complete with the matching movement serial number and reference information. Also included are its original Omega presentation box and instruction booklet.
Finding a fine example is one thing. Finding one that has reportedly remained unworn since 1973, accompanied by its original box, matching certificate and documentation, is something quite different.

The Condition
This watch is one of a kind!
The dial is 100% factory original and very well preserved.
Its 14K gold-capped case retains beautifully defined edges, sharp lines and its original brushed finishing. Unpolished and probably never worn. The silver-toned, finely textured dial is exceptionally well preserved, with elegant applied hour markers, matching hands and the unmistakable Constellation star.
The movement presents beautifully and, according to the watch’s known history, has never been serviced. The caseback has been carefully opened for identification and documentation, but no mechanical restoration or servicing has been carried out.
The watch is currently running and functioning well.
However, given its age and the absence of servicing, we recommend a complete mechanical service before regular use. We have deliberately chosen to preserve the movement in its existing condition, allowing its next owner to decide whether to maintain its originality as a collector’s piece or have it serviced for everyday enjoyment.
If you want it serviced, we can help you!
