The Watch

The Omega Seamaster Ref. 2996-1 is a particularly interesting model because it sits at the crossroads between the Seamaster line and the short-lived Ranchero model of the late 1950s. Many collectors refer to these watches as “Seachero”—a blend of Seamaster and Ranchero.

The Ranchero was introduced by Omega in 1958 as a more affordable sports model positioned below the Railmaster. It was not a commercial success and was discontinued after a short production run. However, Omega appears to have used remaining Ranchero cases and components in certain Seamaster references, including the 2996-1. As a result, many 2996 models look almost identical to Ranchero watches.

A particularly sought-after variant is the CK2996-1 SC, which was supplied to the Pakistani military, especially the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) and certain naval units. These watches often feature military engravings on the case back and are considerably rarer than standard Seamaster models.

The reference 2996-1 has become popular among collectors because it:

  • Has a distinctive 1950s aesthetic.
  • Shares its heritage and design DNA with the rare Ranchero.
  • Often houses Omega’s legendary 30 mm movement (calibers 284 or 285).
  • Is significantly rarer than most standard Seamaster models from the same era.

The Condition

This watch got an factory original dial with a beautiful ”creamy” patina. Applied indexes and logo and original “Dauphine” hands.

This Seachero Omega wears surprisingly large on the wrist. There is something about these off-white dials that, when paired with thin bezel cases, makes the watch feel extra large on the wrist.

The caseback is beautiful but whit small signs of being opened.

The case has got some small signs of wear but is overall in a nice condition with original bevels. The crown is original and so is the crystal with the Omega symbol in the centre

A true and rare stunner!
