The Watch
One of the most iconic watches you could ever own is a Rolex Datejust - it can't be more classy!
In 1943 Rolex decided to introduce a larger version of the bubbelback. This “new” watch was powered by a perpetual version of the classic 10-½. Later on Rolex made two additions to the movement: a sweep seconds hand and a date disc visible at 3. This was the first step to the datejust model.
The most dramatic change happened in 1954 when Rolex introduced the cyclops date magnifier. This little bump in the crystal enabled one to see the date more clearly and has since become a signature for the Rolex line.
At the end of the 1970s, Rolex began replacing the four-digit two tone Datejust models with new five-digit references—for exempale the 16013. This reference retained the acrylic crystals, tritium, and lug holes, along with the hollow links the “D-Link” style of the Jubilee band. The five-digit two tone Datejust is run on Caliber 3035. The watches include the handy quickset date function whereby the date window is set independently from the center timekeeping hands.
