The Watch
The year 1969 was a major milestone for Omega, largely due to the part the Speedmaster played in the Apollo 11 Moon. Since then the speedmaster have been the most famous OMEGA watch and it have been through different designs.
Everybody probably knows about the quartz crisis that began in the late 70's and this watch should be viewed as a reflection of that crisis. The Speedmaster Quartz was actually produced in four different versions, (186.0005/386.0005, 186.0010 and 186.0009/386.0809).
The movement is an Omega cal. 1620, developed by Omega and SSIH (later to become SMH). Although it has only basic functions by today's standards, it is nevertheless still a very accurate watch, capable of 0.15 seconds per day, or 5 seconds per month. This is better than a lot of quartz watches available even now. The very good accuracy is due to the high quality quartz resonator used, manufactured in-house by SSIH.
